Somfy FAQ

Everything you want to know about wireless sun protection, explained clearly and simply.

How much does a wireless solution cost compared to a wired solution?

The drive unit itself is slightly more expensive with wireless systems. However, this eliminates the costs of control cables, channelling work and electricians. The more products you use, the more noticeable this advantage becomes — wireless systems are often the more cost-effective overall solution.

Do I need to change the batteries in a wireless system?

Transmitters run on batteries, which usually last for several years. Replacing them takes just a few minutes. The motors are powered via the mains supply — solar-powered motors draw their energy autonomously via an integrated solar panel.

How reliable is the wireless connection?

Highly reliable. The wireless technology operates independently of the internet and does not rely on Wi-Fi. Communication is encrypted and works reliably across multiple rooms and floors.

Can I retrofit a wireless system?

Yes. Wireless solutions are particularly well suited to retrofitting, as there is no need to lay any control cables. With a solar-powered system, there is not even a need for a power connection at the window.

What does ‘Smart Home Ready by Somfy’ mean?

This label identifies products featuring built-in Somfy wireless technology. They work straight away via wireless control and can be integrated into the TaHoma smart home system at any time if required — without the need for any alterations or additional wiring.
